Theth is a breathtaking alpine valley deep in the Albanian Alps, a national park of soaring peaks, rushing rivers and a famous stone church standing in green meadows. It has become one of Albania's most loved mountain escapes, perfect for hikers and nature lovers.
The Church and Village
The iconic Theth Church, with its stone tower against the mountains, is the postcard image of the valley. The village around it is scattered with traditional stone houses and welcoming guesthouses.
The Grunas Waterfall
A short hike from the village leads to the Grunas Waterfall, tumbling dramatically down the rocks. It is one of the easiest and most rewarding walks in the area.
The Blue Eye of Theth
Deeper in the valley, the Blue Eye of Theth is a stunning natural pool of vivid blue and turquoise water fed by mountain springs. The hike there is beautiful and well worth the effort.
Hiking to Valbona
The classic trek over the Valbona Pass connects Theth and Valbona, one of the most spectacular day hikes in the Balkans. It is challenging but unforgettable, with sweeping alpine views.
When to Go
The season runs from late spring to early autumn, when the roads and trails are open and the weather is best. Summer is ideal for hiking.
